Margaretha Rima

by Steve Rima

Margaretha Rima was probably the eldest daughter. There is a possibility of an older dauthter named Maria Catharina but not enough evidence is there.

Margaret has the honor of being the first Rima born in America. She was born sometime in 1766 just months after the family arrived here from Germany. She was born at New Peter, Tryon County, New York.

In her young adult life Margaret was the sponsor for several newborns in the neighborhood. She was listed with Peter Lentz as a sponsor. On 15 January 1787 at the Reformed Dutch Church in German Flatts Margaret Rima married Mr. Peter Lentz. This is a marriage that would last over 69 years as both she and her husband lived past their 90th birthdays.

The Lentz family remained in Schuyler even until today. (Over 200 years.) The name was changed from Lentz to Lints about 1810. Peter and Margaret moved from Frankfort to Schuyler in 1807. Margaret was listed in the 1855 cebsys as born in Herkimer County. She could not read or write. Peter died first on January 3, 1855 aged 93 years. Margaret followed soon after on March 20, 1856 at age 90 years. They are buried together at Dutchtown Miller Cemetery, East Schuyler, New York.
